- To be legally married you need a Marriage License from the state in which you are getting married.
- In Oregon, contact the "County Clerk" of any county to arrange to purchase your Marriage License.
- You do not need to have your ceremony in the county in which the license is issued.
- Some Oregon counties allow you to order the license and have it mailed to you.
- The Marriage License is valid for 60 days, so please make sure your ceremony is completed within that period.
- Oregon law requires that an officiant conduct the ceremony and sign your Marriage License, then return it to the issuing county to be filed.
- You are not required by law to have a Marriage Certificate, which is often considered to just be decorative, but if you plan to travel and prove you are married, some countries will expect a copy of your Marriage Certificate.
- Yes, Oregon law requires two witnesses, which does not include the officiant.
- Witnesses can be teenagers.
- Some people have the photographer double as a witness.
- It is always best to check with the park, especially if you are planning to have more than the minimum of five people (the couple, officiant, two witnesses).
