Frequently Asked Questions

Please Contact me if you cannot find an answer to your question.

  • To be legally married you need a Marriage License from the state in which you are getting married.
  • In Oregon, contact the "County Clerk" of any county to arrange to purchase your Marriage License.
  • You do not need to have your ceremony in the county in which the license is issued.
  • Some Oregon counties allow you to order the license and have it mailed to you.
  • The Marriage License is valid for 60 days, so please make sure your ceremony is completed within that period.
  • Oregon law requires that an officiant conduct the ceremony and sign your Marriage License, then return it to the issuing county to be filed.
  • You are not required by law to have a Marriage Certificate, which is often considered to just be decorative, but if you plan to travel and prove you are married, some countries will expect a copy of your Marriage Certificate.

  • Yes, Oregon law requires two witnesses, which does not include the officiant.
  • Witnesses can be teenagers.
  • Some people have the photographer double as a witness.

  • It is always best to check with the park, especially if you are planning to have more than the minimum of five people (the couple, officiant, two witnesses).
